Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Environmental Performance Reviews: Israel 2011
According to this report, Israel’s environmental efforts are praiseworthy but the country is still not meeting targets set by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, including those on carbon dioxide emissions. The report recommended that Israel consider reducing private car use, raising excise taxes on fuel, increasing the number of toll roads, imposing congestion charges for motorists entering large cities, and changing Israel’s tax structure to reduce the provision of company cars, car maintenance allowances, and free parking at work to encourage greater use of public transportation. It also suggested the levy of a carbon tax to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
